Wat Doi Suthep, as it’s commonly known, is one of Thailand’s most sacred and beautiful. It overlooks Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand on a mountainside that has only had road access since the 1930’s. The original site was constructed between 1368-1388 and has been expanded over the centuries.
You reach the site from a base below that requires ascending over 300 stairs straight up. A good option is to catch the funicular to the top and descend using the stairs to really understand the immensity and uniqueness of the property.
Devotees from around the world arrive just to ring the temple bells for good luck and the sound is ever-present during a visit to this miraculous site. This is a not-to-be-missed venue if you are ever in Northern Thailand. Stunning.
